Pacem cottage is an ideal holiday retreat for a family of 4 with all the comforts to allow you to maximise your leisure time. The bedrooms are spacious and the open plan living area upstairs provides glimpses of the see and stunning views of the mountain. Located less than two blocks from walking and mountain bike trail with ample secure parking and close to Grotto beach. I just love this place.
At the risk of sounding redundant, I have no choice but to state the obvious. Pacem is amazing.Working from home during the pandemic had brought about frustration and dubious emotions .The inate need to just get away for a few days, at a price that wouldnt necessarily break your bank, to a place that was local enough not to have hassles wrt travel restrictions or exposure to any high-risk environment.This , was our main criteria. Other criterion was more simple : Atleast 2 bedroom 2/ 2bathroom/ tv/ WiFi/a supportive couch and comfy bed and a well equipped kitchen in a safe , Covid 19 – protocol- followed , clean, quiet and conveniently set location …… with a view.
So without having to go off the grid, to a tv – less retreat,or a frilly boutique apartment or a noisy hotel,we found this Gem of a Cottage at the foot of the majestic mountanous Fernkloof Nature Reserve , within a stone throw away from the beautiful Grotto Beach.
Looking out from the deck / balcony, at the mountain to the left and the ocean to the right,one cant help but feel transported to another country.
Highlights & Amenities :The warm welcome received from the hostess Merryl, who ensured a smooth key handover, complete with complimentary coffee.( Malan also kept her updated on all communication – thank you)
-The ambiance created in the living room thanks to the well insulated , high thatchroof ceiling and well positioned lights.
-Heaters in all rooms, should you need to warm up , along with extra bedding .
-Back up lighting system and a gas stove.
– Ample safe secure parking.
-The tranquility of the neighbourhood
– Hiking, and a walk to the beach and with a local grocer and Mall just a few mins drive away. This place is a winner.
I’d imagine there’s a bit more traffic during high seasons, but either way, we’ll definitely be back! Highly recommended..
I was absolutely amazed at how welcoming the cottage is and that includes Malan who was there to hand over keys and welcome us.
Large airy rooms, everything was in working order and spotlessly clean, and big plus had full dishwasher, laundry machine and dryer which helped a lot.
Being so close to the mountain it is stunning for those that like outdoors and walking.
Close to the beach and all amenities.

I visited Pacem in 2017 and this time came with my family in 2024. It was a wonderful experience like home away from home. Warm and hospitable hosts and everything you could need in the house. We will be returning guests for sure. Thank you once again.
